What is Flat Face Flange?
A flange with a simple surface or a Flat Face flange (FF) is one of the types of flanges that are used in the connections of pipes and industrial piping systems. Flanges are also available with other internal disc surface types. Due to its special features, this type of flange is used in various industries including oil, gas, chemical, petrochemical, water and sewage.
Features of Flat Face flange
1- Flat plate:
The flange with a simple face, unlike the
Raised Face flange (RF), has a flat surface without borders, which is connected to the flange of the same shape with the help of a suitable gasket.
2- Thickness: Flat Face Flange (FF) has appropriate thicknesses in different pressure and temperature according to customer needs and existing standards. These thicknesses can include 1/2 inches, 3/4 inches, etc.
3- Material: FF flange is usually made of carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum, etc. These materials are suitable for industrial environments due to their high resistance to corrosion, wear and pressure.
4- Installation and repair: Due to its simple design and flat plate, FF flange can be easily installed, adjusted and repaired. Also, if repairs are needed, the flange can be easily removed and reinstalled.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Flat Face Flange (FF)
Advantages:
1- Tight connection: FF flange with smooth and rimless plate provides a tight connection between pipes and flanges and minimizes the risk of leakage.
2- Pressure resistance: The proper thickness of the FF flange makes this type of flange withstand pressure and strong vibrations.
3- Easy to install and repair: The simple design and smooth plate of FF flange make it very easy to install and repair.
Disadvantages:
1- Limited connection capability: FF flange cannot be connected to connections with uneven and edged surfaces due to its smooth surface.
2- The need for accurate adjustment: To connect the Flat Face flange (FF) to the pipes, there is a need for accurate and correct adjustment of the flange with the pipe in order to achieve a solid connection.
As a result, the FF flange with its special features is used as one of the types of flanges in various industries and has its own advantages and disadvantages.
